Expert guidance
Two external expert groups support the work of Cardiac Services BC.
The Provincial Advisory Committee on Cardiac Health (PACCH) is a standing expert medical advisory committee comprising leaders and stakeholders in cardiovascular medicine in BC. It is accountable, through the Cardiac Services BC Executive Director, to PHSA's Board of Directors and to each of the other regional health authority boards.
The PACCH's role is the evaluation and control of the quality of patient care, providing medically and scientifically expert advice and recommendations to Cardiac Services BC on the full continuum of cardiac health.
The Cardiac Services Steering Committee (CSSC) is responsible for providing direction on, among other things:
- the cost accounting, funding methodology and funding policy for cardiac services
- service capacity
- new technology and drugs
- quality assurance
- quality improvement
- provincial capital equipment planning and funding under a joint provincial strategy.
The committee is also generally responsible for providing more transparency between the funder and the provider and ensuring equity across all five health authorities.
Membership includes senior administrative and clinical representation from the provider centres, the Ministry of Health and PACCH.
